MAPIHI co-creates research with hapu, iwi, communities, NGOs, local and central government agencies, practices and other research entities.
Together we create the knowledge, design and construction techniques, workforce and policy advice needed for transformational change in housing quality and supply.
The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi As our Communications and Media Adviser, you will initiate a broad range of PR activities to raise awareness of our Research Centre and our researchers.
This 6-month , fixed-term vacancy is full-time ( hours a week) and has been created to implement our communications Strategy.
You will support the Centre Directors to effectively build the profile of MAPIHI Maori and Pacific Housing Research Centre by taking responsibility for executing an existing communications strategy.
The strategy includes the development and execution of engaging communications and campaigns for multiple audiences across a range of platforms.
This includes outreach activities, the management of our MAPIHI website, newsletters, bulletins, media engagement, social media and other communications technologies.
We are looking for you to drive our communications and improve our digital marketing initiatives and content management using creative content writing, search engine-friendly copywriting, proofreading, and editing.
To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills through relationship management, advocacy and negotiation either within the University or with outside organisations or key stakeholders (note that this key stakeholder group could be very diverse, national and international for some activities).

About the team | Mo to matou ropu Aotearoa New Zealands housing crisis disproportionally affects Maori and Pacific communities.
Known societal issues are low housing and land supply, building costs, unaffordability, poor proximity to work and education, crowding, substandard construction, uninhabitability and the hauora (wellbeing) effects of all these factors.
Solutions to these issues are under-researched.
MAPIHI addresses identified research gaps by increasing housing research capacity and capability through transdisciplinary partnerships with communities, NGOs, industry, local and central government agencies, and research entities at other tertiary institutions.
This role reports to the Facultys Communications and Marketing Manager for guidance and reports to the Centre for day-to-day operations and direction.
The role also liaises regularly with the Universitys Research Communications Manager.
You will work in partnership with our operational leaders and central communications team in this focused role to support the goals of MAPIHI.
About you | He korero mou This role is suited for someone with a communications and PR background who is also comfortable with journalist writing.
For your application to stand out, you will need to have a working knowledge of and experience using te reo Maori and/or a Pacific language/s in PR or communications and an understanding of best practice communications techniques.
We are seeking | E rapua ana matou A bachelors degree in communication, marketing, or a relevant subject area.
Demonstrated ability and experience in communications and media interactions.
Experience in a diverse range of marketing and advertising activities across print, web and digital media.
An advanced level of oral and written English Language communication skills.
Experience and understanding of Maori and/or Indigenous communities, culture and knowledges.
