Whanganui, New Zealand Hauora Taiwhenua Rural Health Network Full time

We are seeking an experienced GP to join our well-established Whanganui practice. This is a full-time position, ideally 5 days per week; however, this is negotiable, as is the start date.We are also seeking a part-time GP to service our satellite clinic in Waverley (45-minute drive from Whanganui). This clinic is currently open two days a week; however, there are additional days and hours available in the Whanganui clinic. Weekly team briefings and mentoring support will be provided.The practice employs three permanent, vocationally registered GPs and is seeking another permanent GP to join their team. This is a full-time position, but the hours are negotiable, as is the start date.Staff here work very well as a team, and there is excellent collegial support. The GPs work alongside an excellent nursing team and a supportive administration team. The clinic is located in a lovely, well-equipped building with modern facilities. There are around 6000 registered patients, with a high Maori population. Staff must have a good level of cultural awareness or be open to learning about different cultures. All new staff will be supported to complete the organisation's Whanau Ora training, ensuring there is a consistent understanding of the organisation's Whanau Ora (inclusive) approach.The clinic is open from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm weekdays, with evening clinics from 5.00 pm-8.00 pm two days a week. The practice is ideally looking for a GP to work 5 days per week; however, this is negotiable. Our GP team is part of the on-call roster at the after-hours acute services at Whanganui Accident & Medical Centre, based at the Whanganui Hospital, which is a 5-minute drive away from the clinic.PracticeThis practice is an iwi-led organisation that was established in 1993 to improve access and service delivery of health services to Maori in the Whanganui Region. Over time, the roles and functions of the organisation have grown, and the organisation now delivers a range of health and social services throughout the region to Maori and Non-Maori Whanau (Family).LocationWhanganui is a city on the West Coast of the North Island, and was one of the first cities to be founded in New Zealand. Whanganui means 'big bay' or 'big harbour', and was named this because of the great river that flows through it. The Whanganui River, New Zealand's longest navigable waterway, runs from Mount Tongariro to the sea.It is the country's third-longest river and has special status owing to its importance to the region's Maori people. In March 2017, it became the world's first natural resource to be given its own legal identity, with the rights, duties, and liabilities of a legal person.Home to approximately 43,000 people, Whanganui is picturesque and has much to show off. It's just a couple of hours' drive from Wellington, Mount Ruapehu, and Mount Tongariro, or a quick flight from Auckland. Prominent heritage buildings in the city include the Whanganui Opera House and the Sarjeant Art Gallery.
