With over 13,000 staff, we provide policing services 24 hours a day, every day.
We operate by land, sea and air, manage over 860,000 emergency calls a year and are always actively preventing crime and crashes.
We're working towards specific goals and targets that highlight our intent to work collaboratively with iwi and communities, other government sectors and business partners to deliver 'Our Business' and achieve long-term change.
About us Te Tari Pureke – Firearms Safety Authority is New Zealand's Firearms Regulator.
Our Vision is to ensure the possession and use of firearms in Aotearoa is the safest in the world.
To achieve this, Te Tari Pureke delivers four core functions: effectively implementing the firearms licensing systems; managing the Firearms Registry; educating people to enable compliance with their legislative responsibilities; and promoting the safe possession and lawful use of firearms.
We are committed to fostering a culture of safe and responsible firearms use, gun ownership and awareness by working collaboratively with the firearms community, our stakeholders, and fellow agencies.
About the role The Senior Communications Advisor role will help deliver engaging, proactive, targeted communications products and advice.
You will have a nose for a great story or angle, a mature risk radar, and have great planning and writing skills.

* Work collaboratively within a passionate communications team, and with subject matter experts across the wider organisation, to deliver seamless and integrated communications support.
* Demonstrate a strong 'risk radar' and ability to monitor and interpret public/stakeholder sentiment at key moments or around key issues, providing senior management with timely input and frank advice in respect of communications issues.
* Support different parts of the organisation with communications advice and services that enhance the delivery of their engagement strategies with key stakeholders and sector groups.
* Work to deliver the strategic priorities set by our senior leadership team, and ensure these priorities are reflected in our communications activities, contributing to enhanced public understanding, trust and confidence.
* Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, Maori and other communities and diverse cultures.
Requirements: * A qualification/training in a related communications field (especially journalism, broadcasting, or marketing).
Demonstrable experience in any of these areas would be considered in lieu of a formal qualification.
* A qualification in public policy, public management or related field would be advantageous.
Extensive experience in public sector agencies or complex regulatory environments would also be sufficient.
* Delivery of timely and accurate communications material that responds to issues of the day, or has been contributing to the longer term strategic direction and success of organisations.
* A sound understanding of the media environment and responding to issues of public interest.
* Extensive experience engaging and working with both internal and external partners and stakeholders.
* Ability to proactively apply creative, innovative diverse thinking.
* Sound understanding of the machinery of government and policy making processes would be advantageous.
