Moving and Handling and Injury Prevention Coordinator,Taranaki Base Hospital: Fixed Term 0.8 FTE (until 30th June 2025)· Make a difference to the lives of staff and patients through moving and handling interventions· Moving and Handling is a high injury risk for healthcare staff/kaimahi and you can make a difference to them through delivering a safe and effective injury prevention programme.· As part of our occupational health team, you will be supporting and promoting the health, safety and wellbeing of our kaimahi/staff and helping them to thrive at work.This position is a fixed term currently whilst we move through a change process but there may be opportunities within our permanent structure for a similar role.Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the RoleThe role is located in our Occupational Health Unit at Taranaki Base Hospital but covers all of Taranaki District.
The role entails:Implementing the national Moving and Handling Policy within the districtDeveloping and implementing a risk-based programme plan for Moving and Handling across the districtEducating staff on appropriate and safe moving and handling practicesWorking in collaboration with nurse educators and coaches to support department-based training and ensuring staff are meeting competenciesProviding consultation and advice on moving and handling hazards and problem-solving controlsContributing to recommendations for cost effective capital expenditure for equipment or infrastructure to manage moving and handling hazardsAbout the Team/Service/ Location· You will be part of a welcoming and supportive local, regional and national occupational health team, who are transitioning through change into a new occupational health structure.· You will have readily available support from the National Lead for Moving and Handling and the wider Health NZ Moving and Handling interdisciplinary team covering all regions.· Health New Zealand Taranaki employs approximately 2600 staff across a number of sites in the region, with key locations Base Hospital and Hawera.

Input into Moving and Handling is truly valued and seen as a key requirement to keep our staff safe and thriving.About youYou will be a registered health professional in New Zealand with a current practicing certificateYou will have experience in occupational health and safety practice, as well as knowledge of injury prevention, moving and handling principles and education and health risk management principlesAn understanding of moving and handling techniques and skills in the clinical and non-clinical environment.Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team and the wider organisationKnowledge and experience in delivering education to adults and implementing effective learning strategies that transition to multiple work environmentsEvidence of strong work organisation and prioritisation skills including the ability to adapt to workflows and service prioritiesExperience in project implementation with demonstrated positive results and outcomesWorking at Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
