About the Role Here at Christchurch Hospital, we are looking for an experienced Physiotherapist with a special interest in paediatric physiotherapy to join us in providing a quality service to our patients. This role is an outpatient role, seeing children with primarily orthopaedic injuries and conditions. The role is part of our Musculoskeletal and Paediatric team working across the clinical specialties of inpatient paediatrics, orthopaedics, Acute Trauma, Acute Spinal, Emergency Department, Burns and Plastics, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Responsibilities include: Using detailed anatomical knowledge and musculoskeletal physiotherapy evidence to assess and manage a range of paediatric presentations including:Non – ACC patients with persistent growth and development related musculoskeletal conditions that impair daily physical function e.g. toe walkingPost surgery rehabilitation e.g. clubfoot repairPaediatric oncology patients e.g. deconditioning, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, etc.Providing advice or referring to other servicesSupporting quality improvement activitiesAbout You Excellent communication skills will ensure that you work effectively within the team. This includes building rapport with children and whanau in challenging situations to ensure the best care is given to the child. Planning, organisational and service development skills are central to this busy role.
Essential skills and experience include: A minimum of 2 years clinical experience working in Paediatrics, ideally in an outpatient settingGood understanding of the current management principles of chronic pain as well as an understanding of the principles of educationAn ability to contribute to interdisciplinary service developmentKnowledge of quality improvement principles and processesAn ability to work unsupervisedExcellent communication skills both verbally and writtenDemonstrated leadership abilities (desirable)Enthusiasm and confidence in sharing your knowledge across your disciplineA working knowledge of quality improvement processesRegistration with the NZ Physiotherapy Board and an Annual Practicing Certificate is essentialCompetency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growthExperience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settingsWorking for Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is 'the weaving of wellnesses.'
