Community Mental Health Nurse - Rural Adult Community MH ServicePermanent full-time 1FTE positionWork hours between 08:30 hrs – 17:00 hrs. About the Role The Rural Adult Community Psychiatric Service has a vacancy for a registered nurse with mental health experience to join their community team on a full-time permanent basis from February 1st, 2025.
The Rural team provides an assessment and treatment service for tangata whaiora (consumers) experiencing mental illnesses and works closely with their whanau (family) - both in the community and alongside inpatient services. It is a sought-after position due to the rural nature of the work.
The Rural team covers an area between the Clarence River (Kaikoura) to the north and down to the Rakaia River in the South. You will be embedded in a supportive multi-disciplinary team based at Fergusson Building at Hillmorton Hospital. The position will involve travel using a Te Whatu Ora vehicle.
About You We are looking for a professional and highly motivated nurse to join our team. To be successful in our team, you will need to display a positive attitude and enthusiasm for this area of work. You will enjoy being part of a committed and diverse multi-disciplinary team, working in collaboration with a group of professionals that recognizes the importance of providing quality care and services to their patients, friends, and whanau, and liaising with our GPs, medical centres, and NGOs. Interacting with a variety of stakeholders, you will have the ability to effectively manage and prioritize a caseload in a case management position.
You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, and in collaboration with our tangata whaiora and their family/whanau, primary care, community supports, and our inpatient teams.It is essential that you have the ability to think on your feet, triage, and prioritize your tangata whaiora's needs appropriately and in a timely manner.You will case manage a caseload of tangata whaiora whom you will proactively engage with and support to engage with their treatment and other holistic supports.Highly developed risk assessment skills are important, as is your ability to develop effective rapport with people who may be mentally unwell or distressed.Assessment, development of treatment plans, and liaising with whanau and other carers, NGOs, police, probation, and other services is all part of the Community Mental Health Nurse role.You will be a respectful, caring team player with conflict resolution ability.Working for Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is 'the weaving of wellness'.
