Health and Safety Advisor – Construction, Demolition, Asbestos RemovalA family-owned business with the head office in Onehunga, this company specializes in demolition, deconstruction, civil and earthworks, asbestos removal, and salvage projects across Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and Wellington regions. With a team of approximately 110+ staff, they are industry leaders with over 25 years of experience. They were among the first to establish the New Zealand Demolition and Asbestos Association and have influenced many of today's standards. They are also the first demolition organization to be Green Star accredited, showcasing their commitment to the environment and their team.About the RoleReporting to the Health and Safety Senior Management team and working with site leaders, you will set the safety tone and ensure the delivery of safe practices in demolition projects. We seek a genuine influencer who is pragmatic and adept at finding solutions. The ideal candidate will be a relationship builder whose impact will last even after they leave the site, ensuring workers are committed to safe practices.The key to this role is driving a positive safety culture and promoting a safe environment for all workers, subcontractors, and other personnel through monitoring, support, advice, and risk mitigation in line with best practice initiatives. This role is a mix of field and office work and requires some travel, so you must be able to operate independently and confidently. Ideally, you will have site-based demolition experience, particularly with asbestos and heavy machinery.DutiesProactively monitor and improve health and safety behaviorsFoster a genuine health and safety commitmentPromote an environment where risks are identified and mitigatedManage injury, ACC, and return-to-work processesCoach, mentor, and enhance understanding at all levelsConduct incident investigations and reportingPerform internal and external auditing and monitoringSkills and ExperienceStrong knowledge of NZ health and safety legislation, including asbestos removalExcellent skills in systems, documentation, training development, and deliveryProficient in reporting and communicationExperience dealing with WorkSafeAbility to manage and develop junior HSE staffExperience with ISO 45001 auditing systems is highly valuedRelevant health and safety qualifications (or working towards them)Strong IT and administration skillsSelf-managing and self-motivatedPositive, energetic, outgoing, and friendly personalityCultureThe organization is committed to its people and the environment, focusing on continuous improvement in health and safety standards.
