Asbestos/Environmental Scientist - Auckland, NZ

This opportunity is for a flexible and self-motivated individual with an interest in environmental science and human health risk - particularly in the built environment. You will be responsible for field work and reporting to support environmental projects and contaminated land assessments particularly in relation to asbestos. If hired, you can expect up to 40 % of your time will comprise short-term and extended travel trips within New Zealand.

**Typical responsibilities will include**:

- Monitoring and assessment of hazardous materials in buildings surveys (management and prior to demolition).
- Sampling of hazardous materials (including asbestos and lead) in buildings.
- Asbestos air monitoring.
- Reporting and risk assessment.
- Supporting soil and groundwater contamination investigations and remediation where appropriate.
- Collection and reporting of field data including sampling of surface water, soil groundwater, vapour and ground gas.
- Data handling and analysis.
- Travel and participation in field activities.

**Skills required for success in this role include**:

- 0-2 years’ experience in data collection and interpretation skills. General skills in computer and technology. Good communicator in oral and written form. Education, training, and experience in health and safety, environmental science or earth sciences is desirable. Must hold a full drivers’ licence._
