Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity This is a unique and pivotal role that will allow you to have a say and influence the entire Land Transport Regulatory System. We are looking for a Principal Engineer (Heavy Vehicles), you will be part of a team who are the go-to for all regulatory system technical advice. Your role will be in the heavy vehicle mechanical area in particular. On a day to day basis you might be providing expert technical advice and guidance to the wider Te Rōpū Waeture operational groups, assisting with the development of standards and guidance or working closely with industry to come up with solutions. Along with this you would be picking up and leading pieces of work that have a long-term impact on our Regulatory System. We will look to you to unpick complex heavy vehicle mechanical engineering issues and present solutions in a clear and easily understood way. You will need to be able to validate and understand engineering designs, which are often complex. Click to view the position description Ko koe tēnei | About you To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- Significant technical expertise and experience in the heavy vehicle mechanical engineering space.
- Previous experience in heavy vehicle mechanical design and qualifications in Heavy Vehicle mechanical engineering and certification is preferred.
- A thirst for keeping abreast of technology changes domestically and internationally.
- Proven ability to make good risk-based decisions, using the right data and intelligence.
- Excellent written and oral skills.
- Ability to think at a system-wide level with respect to your technical area with the ability to communicate this effectively to influence outcomes.
- Be a pragmatic/real world thinker.
