We are one team, stronger working together as a collective | He tira kotahi tātou, he hoehoe tahi, he tū tahi.
What we do and why we do it | Te pūtake o ā mātou mahi
We bring engineering to life to engineer better lives for New Zealanders. Our mahi supports, connects and uplifts the engineering community, drives and celebrates engineering excellence and champions change that matters. We prioritise impactful programmes focused on climate change, diversity and inclusion, te ao Māori, and empowering rangatahi with inspiring STEM education – all to champion a diverse, resilient and future-focused engineering profession. Reporting directly to the General Manager Membership Services, this role will manage a small but dedicated team dedicated to delivering cohesive, enriching experiences for our members, making sure they feel valued, supported, and connected. This role is based in central Wellington, with the expectation that the successful candidate will work from the office at least three days per week.
You will direct initiatives that boost meaningful member engagement, promote cross-team collaboration, and enhance services that meet the diverse needs of the engineering community. By championing the voices of our members, you’ll strengthen individual relationships and amplify Engineering New Zealand’s influence—ultimately delivering lasting value.
Key deliverables include:
- Leading a small, dedicated team, fostering collaboration and transparency.
- Developing and promoting our strategic engagement and experience model.
- Lead cross-team collaboration to align strategies and working closely with all internal teams to ensure cohesive and aligned efforts.
- Supporting the design and delivery of quality, high impact events.
Who we're looking for | Tā mātou e kimi nei
You will be a strong people leader who will bring a strategic mindset with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, strong writing and editing abilities, and the resilience to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Empathetic and collaborative, you will be a team player committed to inclusivity, diversity, and advancing the engineering profession, while also being innovative in your approach to problem-solving. This role does require regular domestic travel.
In addition, success will come from your:
- Proven people leadership skills that enable an engaged team while managing for consistent outcomes.
- Reputation for building compelling partnerships with a range of stakeholders.
- Creative event management experience with the ability to develop a strategic events portfolio.
- Impressive stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and build trust and confidence.
- Enviable networks and connections encompassing viable partners for our brand and organisation.
- Passion for digital capability.
- Willingness to travel and potentially work some weekends to help deliver activity around New Zealand.

We're purpose driven, values led and committed to creating an equitable and inclusive workplace. We know we do better work if we have a diverse mix of people on our team, because engineering is for everyone and so is life at Engineering New Zealand Te Ao Rangahau. From home office seclusion, to life in the office and everywhere in between, you’ll have access to the tools, resources, collaborators, professional development, and organisational support you need to do your best work. We offer a social, supportive and aspirational work culture. Your mental health and work-life balance are paramount to us.
We can offer you | Tā mātou e tuku ai ki a koe
- Commitment to flexibility – whatever that looks like for you.
- Unlimited wellbeing leave and 5 weeks annual leave.
