Safety Partner - Wellbeing at Accident Compensation Corporation, Wellington

Tōnui Ake Nei | Thriving Aotearoa is our vision for a future where we work together so that all people and their communities can live the lives they value.

Permanent. Wellington, Auckland (HSBC) or Hamilton.

The Wellbeing, Health and Safety strategy takes a holistic view to workplace wellbeing and our approach includes every layer of ACC; our people, our work, our relationships and our environment.

The Safety Partner - Wellbeing sits at the heart of this mahi, working closely alongside our broader Wellbeing, Health & Safety (WHS) team to deliver great outcomes across the organisation. The role will have a key focus on providing frontline wellbeing support across all functions and teams, delivering innovative programmes and initiatives that enhance and add to the overall wellbeing of our people.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with enterprise leaders and senior managers to provide wellbeing support, coaching, education and leadership to kaimahi (employees) and leaders, aligned with our strategy, Huakina Te Rā.
  • Partner with external clinical teams to provide mental health advice and interventions as needed.
  • Provide confident, sound advice to managers around risk with their kaimahi.
  • Deliver engaging wellbeing training and presentations and communicate effectively to build capability across the organisation.
  • Provide advice to business groups on the management and mitigation of health and wellbeing risks.
  • Collate and prepare information that will be delivered at board meetings.

To succeed in this role, you'll have a background in Health Promotion but also experience in a wellbeing injury management role - working with kaimahi involves a different risk approach and requires additional responsibilities compared to working with kiritaki (clients).

You'll be able to connect with people, be confident in providing solid advice and guidance and be able to engage the whole organisation to be more proactive about their wellbeing.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Significant experience in providing wellbeing advice and support as well as influencing at a senior level within a large and complex organisation.
  • The ability to triage and respond to mental health issues concerning kaimahi.
  • A level of clinical understanding of mental health issues and ability to work with clinicians (read and understand clinical reports).
  • Demonstrated expertise in current wellbeing, health and safety practice, including knowledge and application of relevant legislation, contemporary thinking and emerging trends.
  • Competency in tikanga Māori and te reo Māori would be advantageous.
  • Ability to work without close supervision, demonstrate initiative and exercise sound judgement and decision making.
  • Effective problem-solving approach, risk management and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritise, plan and co-ordinate activities and resources to achieve required objectives.

The full base salary range for this role is $101,287 to $142,993 with a starting salary within range depending on skills and experience of the successful applicant. ACC also offers an additional 9% superannuation.

We know that a diverse and inclusive team helps us meet the needs of our customers, and we welcome candidates from every ethnicity, national origin, gender identity, age, and those with a disability or who have additional mental health needs. It is important to us that people are free to be themselves at work. Here are some ways we encourage that:

  • Employee networks to support our colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • The option to explore flexible working that suits your needs and ours.

Applications are open through to 5pm, Wednesday 4th November and can only be accepted when formally submitted through our ACC Career Website.

If you encounter accessibility issues when submitting your application, or if you would like further information, please email

Note: You may be redirected to the employer's careers website.
