We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller, based in our Lower Hutt office.

We design and provide customised solutions for our clients to support them in their energy, industrial and digital transitions.

Role Overview

As the Financial Controller for Equans NZ, you will report to the CFO and support the GM for New Zealand. You will be responsible for completing financial close of month end and year end results, along with monitoring of key financial indicators and ad hoc financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete month-end processes, including posting journals, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Coordinate with project managers and regional managers for project reviews and closures.
  • Liaise with CFO to analyse and explain results against budget and forecast.
  • Conduct financial forecasting to anticipate trends and allocate resources proactively.
  • Analyse financial performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor risk exposures and ensure effective risk management controls.
  • Implement and test internal controls to prevent fraud and errors.
  • Review monthly profitability and provide feedback to management.
  • Close and review SG&A costs monthly.
  • Analyse branch and contract level reporting for revenue and margin.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and labour force planning.
  • Ensure WIP balance and inventory levels are maintained.
  • Work with Accounts Receivable to reduce debtors.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support year-end auditing and statutory reporting.
  • Perform ad hoc duties as required by management.
Qualifications & Experience
  • CPA / CA (or equivalent) qualification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years' experience in the same or similar position.
  • Communication and Influencing skills are critical.
  • Knowledge in Advanced Excel.
  • Financial analysis skill – Applies concepts of knowledge/skill without requiring supervision and can provide technical guidance.
  • Experience with SQL and ODBC reporting highly desirable.
