**ABOUT THE ROLE**
**As a medical registrar**, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in general medicine as part of our team. The department consists of six Physicians in General Medicine with sub-specialty interests and two outpatient Consultant Cardiologists as well as specialist nurses and visiting sub-specialists. As part of your inpatient duties, you will participate in medical admissions and management with an unselected medical take, giving you exposure to a wide range of medical presentations and procedures. There are also a number of educational opportunities including journal club, protected teaching and clinical skills sessions.
Gisborne Hospital a 110 bed acute care hospital which serves a wide geographical area, Tairawhiti, extending up the East Cape of New Zealand, creating enormous scope and variety in the work available to an enthusiastic registrar. Providing healthcare to a population of 54,000, Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti is well supported locally by comprehensive surgical services and has a full range of diagnostic facilities on site including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner. We have strong ties with our tertiary referral centre in Waikato.
