**AN INTERESTING, DIVERSE AND EXCITING ROLE**
***:
- **BASED AT PORT NELSON**
***:
- **PROVIDE CRITICAL SUPPORT TO TALLEY’S FLEET OF DEEP-SEA FISHING VESSELS***
**Company Description**
There’s a history of goodness at Talley’s. And we’re not just talking about our nutritious, delicious food. We stand by our products’ impeccable quality and growing team of skilled workers as we bring healthy, delicious food to dinner tables near and far.
What sets us apart is that all our products come directly from and are processed in New Zealand, and our people are fundamental to our success. We’re proud to provide New Zealand’s best produce to the world.
**About the role**
You have a critical role in supporting the Deep-Sea vessel fleet’s range of systems. The Deep-Sea operations have a modern fleet of factory trawlers equipped with automated processing facilities. You will be ensuring bridge, production, compliance, and crew systems are operational, often in remote locations, and ultimately these systems determine whether they can catch fish. Key to this role will be working with a broader team to continually improve technical standards and ensure their consistency across the fleet. It is a demanding, fast-paced, yet exciting environment.
Workdays will vary based on when vessels are in port, and other team members’ availability, with the requirement to be part of a rostered on-call team to address issues outside of business hours.
**Key responsibilities**:
- Lead the resolution of issues and manage communications with vessel contacts.
- Ensure key systems such as vessel communications and tracking are always available.
- Manage satellite communication platforms considering security, bandwidth and traffic constraints. Starlink Maritime and Iridium Certus are examples of network platforms in use.
- Identify and manage change-related risk during all remote work.
- Set and manage technical standards in consultation with team peers.
- Improve documentation, processes, and configuration standards.
**The skills/experience needed**:
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate yourself to non-technical people.
- A sense of urgency balanced with a calm, methodical approach.
- Ability to resolve issues using remote tools on vessels that can be 1000’s of KM away
- Modern security appliances (Sophos UTM Appliances are used)
- Strong networking skills, including CCNA Certification or similar.
- Sound Windows Support skills
- Wireless networking
- Satellite Communications or working over low bandwidth, high latency links
- Strong lateral problem-solving skills
While it would be great if you have the majority of the above skills and experience, we will also consider applicants who can demonstrate the willingness and ability to learn quickly.
