We are Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland. We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Our main sites are Auckland City Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre and Starship Children’s Hospital, located in central Auckland.
We are part of Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, the overarching organisation for New Zealand’s national health service. Te Whatu Ora leads the day-to-day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.

**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**
In this position, you will be responsible for the operational and people management of the General Microbiology team. This role includes training and staff development, rostering, review of SOP and oversight of process improvement projects. You will ensure the delivery of high quality and timely services in line with clinical expectations with an over-all emphasis on quality outcomes.
You will also have the primary responsibility for maintaining the section’s accreditation against the standard ISO 15189 and will contribute to departmental strategic and business planning as required.

**Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills**
To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and attributes:
- At least 5 years’ experience as a senior Medical Laboratory Scientist working in a diagnostic medical laboratory
- Previous experience in Diagnostic Microbiology is essential
- Demonstrable skills with Microsoft Office products at a minimum intermediate level
- Detailed knowledge of the ISO15189(22) standards
- Previous people management or leadership experience is essential with experience in performance management and development
- Previous experience in the training and development of staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Flexibility to suit the service demands with the ability to prioritise and deliver to deadlines
- Experience in quality management system is essential with a working knowledge of computer-based systems within the context of a Medical Laboratory
- Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ and current APC
