**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
The Government Property Group is accountable for the strategic leadership of the government’s office accommodation portfolio and provisioning for the centralisation of components of the government’s property function. A project has been initiated to optimise Wellington government office accommodation and to achieve savings for the Crown.
The Engagement & Planning Specialist is a critical influencing, results orientated, portfolio management role who builds credibility in portfolio management with a wide range of public sector agencies. Having a comprehensive understanding of how government office accommodation fits within the property system, the role holder is pivotal in addressing conflicting and competing agency preferences and negotiating resolutions that meet broader system outcomes.
The role holder will develop system wide office accommodation portfolio plans and provide a point of connection between agencies and the commercial property sector to ensure alignment of supply and demand based on a medium to long term view of Wellington government office property requirements, demonstrating an insightful understanding of how government office accommodation can be delivered.
The Engagement & Planning Specialist brings in-depth knowledge of the business requirements of agencies and builds a property system partnership with agencies to ensure system wide portfolio planning is undertaken and implemented.

To be successful in this position you will have the following skills and experience:

- Must have 15+ years managing an extensive property portfolio ideally in the Government sector.
- Extensive experience in large scale, complex office accommodation portfolio planning and delivery of detailed portfolio management and restacking plans with full cost benefit analysis.
- Extensive experience in planning considering both supply and demand side dynamics, taking a 5 - 20 year view.
- Considerable experience working with occupier/corporate real estate portfolios and understanding how property supports wider business objectives.
- Demonstratable competency in building credibility with a wide range of public sector agencies to foster cooperation and commitment to deliver on project outcomes.
- Highly developed skills in addressing conflicting and competing organisational preferences and negotiating resolutions that meet broader system and project outcomes (e.g. efficiencies, savings, and cost avoidance).
- Sound and up-to-date understanding of the business of government agencies, and the ability to engage effectively at senior levels to build trust and credibility, problem solve, influence, and gain cooperation.
- An existing reputation as a highly credible property negotiator and leader, and strong existing relationships with key players in the commercial property sector.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to bring agencies to innovate and address competing objectives.
- An in-depth understanding of how government works, how broader government goals are translated into government office property requirements along with strong existing relationships with public service leaders.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal, relationship building and management skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders in a range of complex situations.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to analyse market data, financial reports, and lease terms to make informed decisions and to use these to drive portfolio planning.
- Must have legal right to live and work in NZ.
