We are looking for a person who can assist our teams to ensure that we continue to provide a welcoming and safe environment for the Inpatient Mental Health Unit at Nelson Hospital. As a Patient Support and Security Worker you will focus on working with staff to best meet the needs of patients and their whānau accessing our services.
This is a permanent position working an average of 64 hours a fortnight over a 6 week rotating roster cycle. The hours of work are 3.00PM to 11.00PM (4 days on, 2 days off).
Commencing salary is dependent on NZQA qualifications and experience from $23.00/hr - with no relevant NZQA qualification, through to $27.68/hr with relevant NZQA Level 3 qualification.
- Night shift: 25% from 8.00PM, (other than overtime)
- Weekends: 50%
- Public holidays: 100%
It would be ideal if you had the flexibility to work various additional shifts, from time-to-time, to assist with covering staff leave.

You will be the type of person who works in a rational and calm manner and who has the skills and experience to effectively de-escalate difficult situations and promote a safe and therapeutic environment. You will be able to relate well to patients and their visitors. You will be able to work with the clinical team and follow directions.
Previous experience in security, or a related industry is preferred. However, this is not essential as training will be provided.

- the ability to relate with ease to people from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds
- the ability to recognise and pass on issues that may affect patient welfare
- a good level of physical fitness and mobility.
