The Research, Analysis and Intelligence (RAI) team purpose is to provide analytical expertise to generate and share insights that support and guide Maritime NZ harm prevention and regulatory decision making. RAI leads intelligence and research programmes, data and analytics, and geospatial capability providing data analysis and strategic, operational and tactical intelligence assessments and products. We innovate; experiment with new products and data to continuously improve our support to Maritime NZ.
Te tūnga | The role
We are looking for an experienced Data Analytics Engineer with a passion for helping organisations achieve greater efficiency, smarter decision making and innovation through data utilisation. We are setting up our data foundations to allow for deep dive analysis, predictive analytics and intelligence essential to achieving our organisational outcomes.
We are looking for someone to take ownership of the design, development and delivery of our on-going pipelines of data which are delivered from a range of sources into the Azure cloud (Data Lake). If you enjoy tackling complex problems, finding innovative solutions and working with a team of dedicated professionals then this could be your new role for 2024.
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a tight knit team, you will enjoy providing technical leadership and knowledge sharing to our analysts and to the wider group.
Nōu te rourou | What you bring
- Relevant tertiary qualification in data / computer science or mathematics, preferably at post graduate level or equivalent experience;
- Experience with cloud computing technologies - Azure SQL, Azure Integration services, Data Factory;
- Demonstrate proficiency in.NET, particularly Azure Functions
- Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP) and Azure Cognitive/AI Services;
- Experience with Source Code Management software e.g., Azure DevOps Server, GitHub;
- Demonstrated knowledge of data-lake constructs, enterprise data management, enterprise data architecture and data management principles;
- Previous experience working with government data and analytical teams would be an advantage;
- Strong team player and a willingness to coach and mentor others;

Salary range $115,455 - $153,940 (appointment likely to be made in the $115k - $140k range) depending on skills and experience + superannuation.
