Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The Information Services team provides timely, efficient, and reliable information to the rest of MFAT - not only in New Zealand but throughout the world. We do this through sharing online publications, providing media summaries and undertaking various other research activities as requested. We are looking for proactive and inquisitive Research Librarian to join our team and further our work.

Global politics is fast-paced and ever-changing. Our new Research Librarian will emulate this by:

- Providing timely, tailored research and training services to staff.
- Providing essential media monitoring services to staff, onshore and offshore
- Promoting the Information Service throughout the Ministry
- Contributing to the management of the general library collection

The salary range for this role is between $70,784 - $90,446 total remuneration. The total remuneration is inclusive of our 3% employer contribution.

This is a varied, engaging, and dynamic role that will suit someone who has experience working in government, corporate or legal libraries. The role will be of significant interest to someone who has a passion for foreign affairs.

To be successful in this role you will.
- Be able to collaborate and communicate effectively within a team
- have good attention to detail,
- know how to catalogue items,
- understand how to manage and filter content in all its guises.
- Legal experience or law background will be an advantage.

Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work.

If you are just starting on this journey that’s OK too - as long as you have a willingness to learn and a desire to develop your cultural capability. As a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, this is important to us and we offer training and support.
