**_We are looking for a Principal Advisor Expanding Best Practice to _**_support the Te Ao Mārama programme. This is a full time, fixed-term role for 27 months._**

**Te whiwhinga mahi/The Opportunity**

We are currently establishing the Te Ao Mārama Programme team, a multi-disciplinary roopu to enable the design, development and delivery of the programme. You will be working closely with supporting teams across the Ministry of Justice and the wider justice sector.

We are looking for a seasoned operations expert to join the team and provide thought leadership to the Expanding Best Practice workstream in the Programme. You will be motivated by improving the District Court experience for defendants, victims, children and young people, parents andwhānau, and provide better information about the participants to judges to enable a solution-focused approach.

The Principal Advisor Expanding Best Practice will be leading the development and provision of high-quality advice for the expansion of best practice approaches across the District Court, which may include using some of the approaches taken through the existing specialist and therapeutic courts such as the Matariki Court, Te Kōti Rangatahi, the Young Adult List, and Whakaorangia te Mana Tangata.

As Principal Advisor Expanding Best Practice, you will be a key member in sharing best practice across the Programme and within the team. You will love the opportunity to coach your team members so they may reap the benefits of your best practice knowledge. You will also be flexible to learn and adapt the knowledge that you hold and,committed to evolving our Best Practice methodologies.

You will have extraordinary relationship management skills that will gain buy-in from internal and external partners, including the judiciary and justice sector agencies, as we look to grow Te Ao Mārama across the country.

**He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience**

**Education/Professional Qualifications and Technical Skills**
- A tertiary degree in a relevant field or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
- A high level of proficiency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga is highly desired.
- Experience in working with iwi and Māori organisations and understanding of tirohanga Māori and Māori world views.

**Work Experience**
- Experience in the workings of the justice sector, and in particular the District Court.
- Operational experience in the District Court, including the specialist and therapeutic courts.
- Excellent relationship management skills.
- Experience providing advice on large change initiative/project.
- Providing specialist advice on service design including; of design principles and implementation of service improvement, and commissioning and procurement at a senior level in a public sector organisation; or other experience in a relevant field.
- Experience leading in a project environment.
- Experience in communicating with a wide range of audiences on a range of complex issues.
- A strong ability to communicate information clearly and concisely (both in oral and written format) appropriate to the target audience.
- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and confident in providing advice based on incomplete information.
- Ability to act in management roles when required.
- Welcome and value diversity and contribute to an inclusive working environment where differences are acknowledged and respected.
- An interest in justice system issues - knowledge of the justice sector would be an advantage but is not essential.
