At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Team Coordinator provides high quality confidential and efficient support to the managers and teams in Education Workforce Payroll, so that they can effectively perform their role and help deliver the Ministry's outcomes.
This role is responsible for a wide variety of complex administrative, secretarial, coordination and research duties. You will need to manage multiple tasks and work effectively with senior leaders, Ministerial offices other coordinators. This will require a high degree of independence, sensitivity, tact, judgement, initiative and self-discipline.

Mōhou ake | About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following experience and capabilities:
- Track record providing support to senior leaders in a complex organisation.
- Agility supporting teams across a variety of areas, working through some ambiguity.
- Wide ranging knowledge of administrative systems and processes.
- Strong scheduling and organisational skills, with a high attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communications skills, producing high-quality documents.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products e.g. Teams, Word, Excel, etc.
- Exceptional time management, interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Knowledge of the Machinery of Government and/or public sector is advantageous.
- A commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
- Maintaining integrity in all interactions and treating all information in confidence.
- Willingness to work in a flexible and dynamic environment.
- Willingness to do what needs to be done to deliver exceptional outcomes.
- A high degree of independence, self-discipline and calm under pressure.
- Establishing strong relationships across a diverse group of stakeholders.
Mātau rōpū ake | About our group and team
Te Pou Ohumahi Mātauranga | Education Workforce leads the sector workforce employment relations, the relationship with the schools payroll provider and we hold the responsibility for bargaining. We advance the education workforce strategy, including a focus on specialist services, employment relations, pay equity, education payroll, supply and scholarship functions.
A programme of work is in place to address schools payroll errors for current and former school employees and is undertaking remediation initiatives on behalf of 2,500 schools and for around 200,000 current and former employees across 400,000 roles.
The schools payroll is the largest in New Zealand, with an average of 96,000 school employees paid every fortnight. Focus is on addressing non-compliance with the Holidays Act 2003 and other known issues resulting from the complexities associated with a large number of employment agreements and the associated payroll processes and practices.
The Ministry faces a unique set of challenges, and this work will take time to complete. We continue to work closely with our key stakeholders to resolve these issues and make remediation payments to school employees who are owed money.
