**Working as a Pathology Registrar in Microbiology**

We take an interest in your career aspirations and we will guide you in an environment that is enthusiastic, supportive as well as providing on-going training within our microbiology departments at Counties Manukau Health and Te Toka Tumai Auckland. As we have full accreditation with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, you will also have the option to fulfil all your training requirements in Auckland. Our regional training program offers structured Part 1 and 2 exam preparation. As part of the program trainees receive departmental continuing medical education (2 hours a week) and Part one or Part two College exam preparation (2 hours a week) as protected "off -floor" teaching and frequent on-floor teaching and feedback.

**Our training programme**

By joining the Auckland Region as a Pathology** **Registrar, you enter a programme with rotations through world renowned teaching hospitals: Auckland City, Starship and Middlemore. All Auckland region hospitals are located within a 35 kilometre radius of each other. Come and experience our diverse demographic population and a variety of presentations and pathologies**.**

**Runs**

Registrar runs in the Auckland region are 6 months in length, following which you may rotate into a different run. Example run descriptions for the 2023 training year can be viewed here

**Am I eligible?**

We certainly hope so but the following will be required:

- Be in your second year as a House Officer (PGY2) and above
- Have demonstrated academic achievement and an interest in pathology
- Have demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member and to relate successfully with other staff at all levels
- An understanding of the concepts of a client focused service
- Eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Check if you’re eligible here.
