**Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role**
The Communications Specialist is our roving reporter, seeking out and creating content that showcases the amazing things we’re doing at Wellington UniVentures. The Communications Specialist works closely with both internal and external stakeholders across the business, University and our ecosystem to tell and share compelling stories, while also growing and managing different channels to tell our stories in both the science and general media.
Our Communications Specialist reports to the Head of People & Engagement and is a critical member of the People & Engagement and broader Wellington UniVentures teams, with involvement across the whole communications and PR process.
This includes the key areas of content creation, communications & PR, supporting the Head of People & Engagement to create and implement the Marketing, Communications and Engagement Strategy, and building and maintain excellent working relationships that span our internal team, suppliers and the broader University.
The Communications Specialist is also responsible for the creation of relevant, informative and interesting content for Wellington UniVentures and determining the appropriate content dissemination for various channels and management of the Wellington UniVentures Content Plan, ensuring a steady pipeline of content that meets targets for brand awareness, investment and growth.
The Communications Specialist will also maintain Wellington UniVentures brand messaging and key messaging disciplines across all communications and provide advice, support and input to team members, our entrepreneurs and via the Incubator around brand, key messages and suitable communications channels and provide media training as required.

We’re looking for someone who is purpose driven and wants to make an impact in the work they do. You’ll be someone who is energised by variety and loves having multiple tasks on the go. You’re proactive in seeking out new stories and opportunities and use your incredible organisational skills to ensure a consistent pipeline of content. With your natural curiosity and fantastic interpersonal skill, you can relate to a wide range of people with ease.
Our perfect person will have some or all of the following education, experience and knowledge:

- Undergraduate qualification in Communications, PR, Media/Journalism or Marketing.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a communications or marketing role, preferably with experience in writing and PR. A knowledge of the tertiary ecosystem would be an advantage.
- Strong written and verbal English. Excellent writing and editing skills, with an ability to deliver proactive content that engages effectively with the end user. Experience presenting complex information or experience in science and/or technology communications would be an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, both managerially and externally. Ability to communicate at all levels. Great interpersonal skills and confident working with our leadership team.
- Sound knowledge of communication and engagement tools, techniques and channels.
- Demonstrated ability to use technology to work effectively and efficiently e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, Mailchimp, etc.
- Good judgement and experience working with national media. Bringing an existing media network is an advantage.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning in the field of engagement and communications. Demonstrates initiative and is confident setting up new systems and processes.
