Working closely with their clientele of domestic and international entrepreneurial and multi-national businesses as well as a growing base of high-net-worth expatriates, the Assistant Tax Manager will ensure client compliance with complex corporate and private tax laws.

**The role**
Managing a varied portfolio of clients, you will be responsible for the delivery of high-end private and business tax advice, as well as the completion of individual, trust, partnership or company tax returns. As part of the funds management team, you will also be involved in portfolio investment entity compliance and advice.

Primarily focused on advising and reviewing complex tax positions; some compliance work will also be required.

More specifically you will be responsible for:

- undertaking tax briefings for international clients (with a focus on film studios, actors and crews) and their New Zealand based staff, contractors and assignees
- reviewing, assessing and advising on the tax obligations of international clients and contractors; addressing the issues, planning and structuring required (income tax and GST)
- undertaking reliable technical research on taxation law (New Zealand and international) and IRD pronouncements; drafting of client announcements and articles
- advising New Zealand residents on their worldwide asset and income sources
- advising on tax treaty issues and positions for individuals and their service entities involving residence, source, permanent establishment, tax credit entitlement, competent authority, etc
- advising on new migrant tax rules and personal service attribution
- advising on the tax treatment of various remuneration types, including fringe benefits, allowances and bonuses
- advise regarding and implementation of employee share schemes
- advising on the research & development tax credit or tax loss cash-out rules
- pro-actively identifying tax opportunities and risks from developments in the law and IRD practices across the practice generally
- managing individual and corporate relationships with clients including new client development
- advising and supporting portfolio investment entities with their tax position and compliance obligations

**Your background**
- Proven tax credentials and capabilities to tackle and advise on the full spectrum of personal and corporate tax issues
- Minimum three years New Zealand tax advisory experience
- Strong commercial acumen to underpin your recommendations and gain client confidence.
