We are excited to offer the opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join our team working in an advanced role. This Advanced Older Adult position is a key position within our team. In addition to advanced clinical skills, this role is involved in the leadership and governance of our growing acute occupational therapy team.
Clinically, this role works as part of the multidisciplinary Acute Health of the Older Person team. This pro-active team provides consults across the hospital including in ED for at-risk and complex patients. This team also leads an inpatient unit called the Acute Frailty Unit (AFU). AFU is twelve bedded with an inter-professional model of care that provides targeted and acute geriatric care. This team is focussed on getting older people well and back into the community quickly
- with the necessary support for people to live their best lives.
The Advanced Occupational Therapy clinical role will involve a caseload on AFU and consultancy work throughout the hospital, including medical wards and ED. Sharing your top of scope skills and knowledge with peers and refining how best to meet the needs of older adults in the acute hospital is an integral part of the role. There is a strong focus on driving quality improvement activities to develop and improve service delivery for older adults in the acute hospital environment including use of evidence based practice and building an acute care framework for all older adults that is underpinned by the vision of Pae Ora.
We are interested to hear from Occupational therapists with out of hospital experience who have worked in the acute setting. You will be well supported by a friendly, fun and enthusiastic team, with leadership from dedicated Team Leaders and highly skilled and experienced Occupational Therapists. We offer on-going professional development and formal supervision. Cultural professional supervision is available for Māori and Pacific Health clinicans.
The Occupational therapist in this role will also provide support to other Occupational Therapists within the team and across services with a specific focus on the medical stream, providing mentoring and clinical guidance.

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
Our team is currently made up of 13 occupational therapists, with 6 team members in the rotational group. The team is expanding to meet increasing demand. We work in the acute setting, assessing and treating patients to contribute to successful discharges and acute hospital flow. We are part of a wider ORA team that has 53 occupational therapists working across community, outpatients and rehabilitation settings. The team is supported by a dynamic team of Allied Health Assistants.
Moū - About you
We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic clinician with proven leadership skills who has an advanced level of clinical knowledge in the specialty of frail older adults. This role has some flexibility with working hours 0.8FTE - 1.0 FTE, our main objective is to find the best match.
- Registration and current APC with Occupational Therapy Board NZ
- 8 years clinical experience
- A clear understanding of the health needs of our Māori and Pacific Island communities
- Demonstrates ability to build rapport with patient and whānau from all backgrounds
