Ko mātou tēnei | Who we are
The Commerce Commission is New Zealand's competition, consumer, consumer credit and economic regulatory agency. It plays a crucial role in ensuring New Zealand's markets are competitive, consumers and businesses are well informed, and sectors with little or no competition are appropriately regulated.

Mō te tūranga | About the role
This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a talented leader and technical expert to lead, develop and be accountable for the delivery of economics focused on Infrastructure Regulation at the Commission. This includes the economic regulation of electricity and gas networks and airports in New Zealand. It is an exciting time with the challenges of decarbonisation and introduction of economic regulation of Water infrastructure. You will hold the primary relationship with the Infrastructure Regulation branch, be an active member of their leadership team, effectively engage with their relevant Board member and regulatory decision makers, and provide an economics perspective to inform their decisions.

A key member of Economics Leadership Team (ELT) and reporting to the Chief Economist, you will contribute to driving professional practice development and setting quality standards for the Economics team. Working closely with the ELT, you will manage the resource allocation to support the delivery economics for infrastructure regulation and the economic resourcing needs of the wider Commission.

This is a permanent position based in either our Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) office or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) office.

He kōrero mōu | About you
To be considered for this position, your knowledge and experience will include:

- being a senior leader with a track record of delivery through inspiring a focused and committed team
- an in-depth understanding of regulatory economics
- expertise in providing quality assurance for high risk and complex projects
- a track record of collaboration and building strong relationships

This is a critical senior role in the Commission and provides the opportunity for a strategic economist to shape the future of economics within the Commission and provide long-term benefits for New Zealanders.
