**About the team | Ko te rōpū nei**

The Resource Recovery Team is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for both minimisation of the city's solid waste and disposal of the residual waste. The Team is also responsible for a range of Contracts including kerbside collection of organics, recycling and rubbish, the operation of the city and Banks Peninsula transfer stations, the operation of the material recover facility and the collection of recycling and rubbish from the inner-city area.

As a Waste Minimisation Advisor your focus is to educate our customers on the importance of minimising what goes into landfill thus diverting waste from landfill and helping to reduce the environmental impact of waste. You will help our community to understand the benefits of waste minimisation and how it can be implemented in an effective, safe, and sustainable manner. Some responsibilities of the role include:

- Providing education to public, contractors, and colleagues
- Managing public and business understanding and compliance with the Waste Management Bylaw and solid waste disposal methods
- Acting as the public face of the Resource Recovery team in dealing with customer complaints
- Following up on reports of contamination and requests for information
- Auditing, monitoring, reporting on and raising concerns in areas of accountability
- This role also involves some work out in the community, working with collection contractors to audit the contents of household wheelie bins.

You may come from a background in customer service, or perhaps you have worked in a similar role in the past, however the key to your success will be your passion for waste minimisation. You will have an enthusiasm for educating the community on why waste minimisation has such a profound effect on not just the individual and our city, but our world as a global resource.

You will be comfortable interacting with members of the public to positively promote the importance of waste minimisation. You will be confident dealing with difficult customers, so the ability to deal with conflict and resolve issues will come naturally to you.
