An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, reliable, self-motivated Horticulturalist to develop the role of Leading Hand Gardener at Bason Botanic Gardens Wanganui.
Recognised by the NZ Gardens Trust as a 'Garden of Significance', the Gardens are set in 25 hectares of landscaped countryside and includes one of the most extensive public garden orchid collections in NZ. This unique location provides inspiration to the local population and visitors to the area, through a diverse collection of landscapes, designs, plants and is also an exceptional location for events such as weddings.
This is a hand’s on position where the following experience and skills are essential to be successful in this position:
In addition to the above you will:
- Ensure all daily activities including plant, labour and materials uses are recorded correctly, checked, signed off and handed in on time
- Ensure machinery checks are completed and necessary maintenance completed before operation
- Carry out/participate in daily pre-start, meetings, hazard id’s and tailgate meeting.

We’re looking for someone with:
- Level 3 Horticultural qualification or equivalent
- Excellent plant knowledge
- Proven work history in a public garden environment.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, solve problems, make decisions and take responsibility.
- Growsafe certificate
- Work well in a small team
- Full class 1 drivers licence essential, with class 2 or ability to obtain advantageous.
