**About the role**

Your day-to-day will include:

- ** Media Strategy Implementation**: Collaborate with Communications Manager and IDD Director to implement an effective media strategy that safeguards and enhances OAo's reputation, profile, and credibility, while driving donations and action.
- **Content Production and Promotion**: Generate diverse media outputs such as press releases, opinion pieces, Q&A's, and song-sheets, establishing OAo as a prominent authority on international development in the NZ media landscape. Actively promote OAo through interviews, public speaking engagements, and arranging photo opportunities for spokespeople.
- **Relationship Building**: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media professionals, fostering connections within the industry to enhance OAo's media presence and outreach.
- **Crisis Management and Media Advisory**: Review and refine media crisis management policies and procedures, providing expert advice and guidance to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) during communications crises. Offer media training to staff as needed and monitor daily media activity to identify opportunities and threats to OAo.
- **Communications Support**: Assist the Communications Manager and Digital Communications Lead in various communication tasks, ensuring consistent brand quality and messaging across different content. Collaborate with relevant staff to facilitate the production of diverse communication products. Provide communication and media support for Oxfam in the Pacific in consultation with key personnel at the OiP office. Foster collaboration and integration with OAo's Advocacy & Mobilisation and Fundraising teams.
- **Humanitarian Media Response**: Direct and fulfill media objectives during OAo's response to humanitarian disasters, often requiring work outside regular hours and on weekends. Coordinate with Oxfam confederation colleagues to provide media and communications support during times of humanitarian crisis.
- **Contribution to Directorate**: Actively participate in meetings of the International Development Directorate, Communications team, and other relevant OAo team meetings. Collaborate closely with the Director and offer support to other Directorate staff as needed. Contribute to planning, monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities, including operational planning and quarterly reporting.
- ** Media Experience and Communication Skills**: Strong background in media activities and a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience in communications, media studies, journalism, or public relations. Proficient in developing media strategies, writing press releases, organizing photo opportunities, conducting media interviews, and delivering public speeches.
- **Key Skills and Attributes**: Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and in high-pressure situations, while being adaptable to changing events. Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills. Demonstrated initiative, responsibility, attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong organizational and time management skills. Flexibility, versatility, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in diverse and challenging environments.
