**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

The ENT service at Waikato Hospital is looking for an experienced, highly motivated senior nurse to fill this new clinical nurse specialist role with a focus on supporting tracheostomy and laryngectomy patients across the Hospital.

This Clinical Nurse Specialist role will be based on Ward M17 and cover all inpatient areas, it will involve you assisting to;
- Support and upskill nurses to care for patients with a Tracheostomy/Laryngectomy across the organisation
- Update education resources, policies and procedures for care of Tracheostomy/Laryngectomy patients
- Complete nurse-led outpatient follow-ups and support community staff with the management of patients with Tracheostomy/Laryngectomy
- Pre-op assessment and education for patients on the elective pathway who will have a tracheostomy/Laryngectomy

You must be confident in your knowledge of tracheostomy/laryngectomy and the management of patients with an alternative airway. This role requires excellent communication and negotiating skills and the ability to work with multiple teams to achieve optimal outcomes for patients and their whanau.

**Mōu | About you**

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

- Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- At least 7 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse with a current annual practicing certificate
- Clinical expertise and the confidence and knowledge to teach, support and guide colleagues in tracheotomy management
- Completed a Professional Development and Recognition Programme - at proficient or above
- Post graduate qualification
- Proven history of advanced assessment skills
- The ability to work independently
- Adaptability, flexibility and excellent communication skills

As part of the surgical resource nursing team we will be able to offer you a supportive working team and ongoing educational opportunities - this is a progressive service looking to develop their team and support nurses in all areas of the Hospital to be able to competently complex airway patients. There will also be the chance to contribute to the ENT department’s quality, research and audit activities.
