**Key responsibilities**:
**This position involves duties related to operating a forklift but not limited to**:
- Receiving and moving materials ensuring handling is kept to a minimum.
- Sort different types of scrap metal based on categories, such as ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and separate them into appropriate designated areas or containers.
- Maintain an orderly and clean yard by arranging materials, stacking, and storing scrap metal in designated areas to optimize space and facilitate easy access.
- Conduct basic maintenance tasks on equipment and tools used in the yard, including cleaning, lubricating, and reporting any malfunctions or damages.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries.
- Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing materials, weights, and other relevant information to ensure proper documentation and tracking.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members, supervisors, and drivers to coordinate tasks, share information, and ensure a smooth workflow.
- Follow environmental regulations and guidelines related to scrap metal recycling, including the proper disposal of waste and hazardous materials.
- Identify and suggest process improvements, efficiency enhancements, or cost-saving measures to optimize yard operations.
- Carry out housekeeping tasks as directed and to a high standard. Ensure all health and safety and PPE requirements are met.
- Carry out any other tasks as directed by management and to the required standards
**Skills, Knowledge and Experience**:
- 1+ years’ experience needed as a forklift operator
- Proficiency in safely operating and maintaining the forklift.
- Some experience working in a workshop, construction site, or recycling factory OR qualification is preferred but not compulsory
- Physically fit with the ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 20kg)
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
**Qualifications**:
- Forklift license is required.
- Must have WTR license
- Class 4 license will be an advantage but not compulsory
**Location**:The Forklift Operator may be required to work in several locations including Kamo and Whangarei.
This role will be a permanent and full-time job.
A minimum of 30 hours of work are guaranteed.
