Te Aho o Te Kahu, the Cancer Control Agency, is a departmental agency of government that provides national leadership for and oversight of cancer control.
Te Aho o Te Kahu takes a whole-of-system focus on preventing and managing cancer and oversees system-wide prioritisation and coordination of cancer care in New Zealand. It is accountable for ensuring transparent progress towards the goals and outcomes in the National Cancer Action Plan. Te Aho o Te Kahu is equity-led, knowledge-driven, person/whānau-centred and outcomes focused.
The office of the Deputy Chief Executive (OoDCE) oversees key organisational governance and corporate operations, including policy design, reporting frameworks, and collaboration with the stakeholders. They lead strategic planning, regional integration, and support a positive workplace culture. They also manage stakeholder communications, provide high-quality service to executives and Ministers, and handle day-to-day operational issues and correspondence.
Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do
- Provide communication support and other collaboration enablers to ensure the effective implementation of key pieces of work across the team/Agency and with external partners
- Project manage key initiatives in the DCE Office, working with others, using work planning tools and methods which includes taking strategic and tactical approaches to achieve results through high quality advice
- Provide expert input into ministerials, parliamentary questions, briefings and other requests for information supporting staff across our teams and the wider organisation
- Support the development and continuous improvement of processes and tools within the Office of the Deputy Chief Executive and the wider Agency
- Deliver high quality, timely, evidence-based critical analysis and advice to Te Aho o Te Kahu, the Ministry of Health and external agencies as required
- You will also mentor colleagues and ensure all work aligns with equity priorities and Treaty of Waitangi obligations.

Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to take complex information and synthesise into key messages for relevant audiences including political.
- Advanced knowledge of the machinery of Government, risk management, managing at the political interface
- Experience in policy is essential (experience in health policy specifically would be an advantage)
- Experience in delivering high quality advice, including scoping, problem definition, options assessment, as well as considering implementation, risk mitigation and evaluation requirements
- Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of fostering strong stakeholder relationships
- An understanding of Māori tikanga and kawa and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
