**The role | Te tūnga**

This role will report to the General Manager - Statistical Delivery, Social & Environmental Statistics. We are looking for an experienced Principal Analyst to join our team who is as passionate about social and environmental data as we are.

The Principal Analyst role is responsible for researching, designing and implementing a range of innovative statistical, data and analytical solutions to support and inform all stages of the data and statistics life cycle across Stats NZ. You will play a crucial part in providing expert analysis and insights and supporting evidence-based decision-making and policy development.
- be highly experienced in quantitative data collection, analysis, and dissemination and confident in utilizing qualitative data sources to inform statistical design processes and methodologies.
- be skilled at lifting the capability of others - a key part of this role will be sharing your expertise by providing mentoring, guidance and advice to less knowledgeable or technically inexperienced people in a way that is empowering.
- have excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences - including both general and technical audiences.
- be a strategic thinker - this role will require you to be creative, innovative, and able to traverse, and find solutions to, novel and complex problems.
- be customer focused - this role will require someone adept at building alignment and alliances between competing interests and agendas and navigating complex customer and stakeholder relationships.
- have familiarity with Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Ao and Te Reo Māori, and experience in working with Māori, iwi, hapū and Tiriti partners.
