**_Māori Health Clinical Nurse Specialist - Rheumatic Fever_**_ _

Whatu Ora Waitemata is passionate about improving health outcomes for tamariki and whānau who are experiencing the impact of Rheumatic Fever.

**The role - Ko te tūranga**

We are expanding our capacity to serve whanau within our local Waitemata district, who are living with Rheumatic Fever. This new role is an advanced practice role, for a Senior Registered Māori Nurse to provide expert care to these whanau and their tamariki.

**The work - Ko te mahi**

In this space, whānau will require you to tautoko them and to be their advocate; to manaaki them on their journey and be a kaiarahi when needed; they will need you to be energetic, innovative, diligent, creative and work in mana-enhancing ways to support the whānau. You would join us initially for 1 year full-time, in a fixed term position. The role will be based at Waitakere Hospital and will be responsible for coordinating care across health care settings.

**Te Ao Māori**

This role will work routinely with whānau Māori so whānau will need you to have a sound understanding of Te Ao Māori, and experience in working with whānau in hui, wānanga, marae or home settings. Being able to work in spoken and/or written Te Reo Māori would be a definite advantage.

**About our team - Mō te tīma**

This position is based in the Nohu Ahuru team (Healthy Homes Initiative). You will also have easy access to the Māori Nurse Director and Māori Health services, Hospital & Specialist Service. We can support professional development to improve your reo or other skills if desired. You will also be well supported by the wider Te Oranga O Nga Rito team throughout the year.

**Your skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako**

This position will suit you if you
- are a Senior Registered Nurse, with a minimum of 5 years paediatric experience.
- have an advanced understanding of the nursing care required, be able to contribute to reducing incidence of, and improving outcomes for those living with Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease.
- demonstrate an awareness of current issues in relation to health and Māori health equity.
- Ideally you will have recent experience in Public Health, Paediatrics and/or Community Nursing and have a postgraduate qualification in nursing.
