**About the opportunity**
As part of the Shared Services Team, the Legal Counsel will be directly involved in complex business transactions, providing leadership in the direction and execution of contractual relationships which will ensure that Calder Stewart can continue to be a leader in smarter building solutions and achieve its strategic and commercial objectives.
Reporting to the COO/General Counsel and working integrally with our various business leaders, you will provide legal input into contractual negotiations, implementation, and management to ensure the efficient and effective running of all contractual obligations, including assisting the business to manage commercial disputes. In doing so, assisting the COO/General Counsel identify, assess, and mitigate legal risk for the Group.
**About you**
You will be a mid-senior lawyer with a current NZ practicing certificate and at least 4 years’ PQE within a commercial / corporate team. Your ability to draft and negotiate contracts and other legal documents, and to resolve issues pragmatically will see you succeed in this role, as will your ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders. You will be a clear communicator with a pragmatic and solutions-focused approach. An understanding of NZ construction law is not essential.
You will be competent to work independently of others whilst knowing your limits and when to ask for help. Most of all you will be passionate about getting stuck in and delivering results.
At the moment you might be working in-house or in private practice, but you are looking to be part of a close-knit team, focused on delivering legal support to the wider organisation so that together, you can achieve future-focused objectives.
