Job Description**

Our Corporate Affairs team is growing and in need of a Legal Counsel. This is a fantastic opportunity to move to an in-house position, or to advance your in-house career, and work for a well-established corporate organisation. We offer a flexible work environment; the team is based in Wellington, but there is the opportunity to work remotely as it suits you.

Our Legal team are a talented bunch of humans and are extremely well regarded at Contact. You will report directly to the General Counsel and be part of a supportive, collaborative team all working towards a common goal - helping Contact achieve its business strategy.

Contact is in a growth phase, so we have a lot of exciting projects on the go and in the pipeline. The activities you will work on are varied in size, scope and responsibility so no two days will be the same. There will be days where you will need to put in extra mahi but it’s worth it. This role is a great opportunity for a junior lawyer to gain valuable in-house experience in a fast-paced and rewarding business environment.

Here is a sneak peak of some of the activities you’ll be responsible for;
- Providing accurate, timely and pragmatic legal advice on a broad range of activities and projects across all areas of the business, including general commercial, consumer law, corporate support, privacy and data security
- Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a range of commercial contracts
- Supporting dispute resolution
- Providing advice on relevant legislation
- Instructing external legal counsel as required

Qualifications**
Tā mātou e kimi nei? | What are we looking for?**
- Around 2 years’ experience working in private practice or similar in-house counsel role
- Sound working knowledge of contract fundamentals, with the ability to review, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts
- The ability to learn and understand the key commercial drivers of a business
- Good communication skills to clearly and concisely communicate legal and commercial risk
- Strong people skills to enable you to establish successful working relationships
- A pragmatic, can-do attitude and an enthusiasm to learn
- Ability to prioritise and manage own workload
- Resilience and comfortable dealing with ambiguity
- New Zealand LLB and current practising certificate
