This newly created role is a senior nursing role and is responsible for leading and managing people, systems, processes and resources that facilitate efficient and effective service delivery and for ensuring a safe and expected standard of patient care.
The role provides clinical and nursing leadership and management to ensure the effective day-to-day operation of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and contributes to the delivery of directorate objectives, nursing and organisational strategy.
As Associate Nurse Unit Manager you will be responsible for ensuring the provision of quality nursing care, education and workforce development and daily operations. You will work collaboratively with the Nursing Leadership Group to ensure care providers deliver patient and family/whanau centred care that is of the highest standard.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 40-cot unit consisting of 18 intensive care and 22 high dependency cots. NICU cares for babies born premature from 23 weeks gestation and is the referral centre for babies who need paediatric cardiology services, neonatal surgery or treatment for complex metabolic diseases.
Located on level nine of Auckland City Hospital - directly across from our National Women's labour and delivery suite, you will work amongst the largest maternity service in New Zealand with approximately 7,500 deliveries per year and around 900 infants admitted to NICU.

**As the ideal person for this role you will have**:

- Excellent Leadership skills and ability to think critically
- Proven clinical competence and knowledge of quality improvement processes and principles
- Maintain quality, ensure care providers and delivery systems meet quality standards and introduce accurate and effective metrics which will provide assurance of outcomes
- Expert communication skills, proven interpersonal and inter departmental skills
- Ability to function in a complex, pressured environment
- Have excellent supervisory and problem solving skills in order to relate to and work with children, whanau and staff at all levels
- An innovator with ability to manage change at a local level
- Flexibility, adaptability, resilience and demonstrates Te Whatu Ora values

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

**To be successful you will**:

- Have RGON, RN, BHSc (Nursing)
- Be legally entitled to work in New Zealand
- Have Postgraduate diploma in specialty nursing practice
- Have minimum 5 years' experience post registration
- Have change and financial management experience
- Work towards completing a Masters Degree
- Previous Charge Nurse / Clinical Charge Nurse experience

**Desired skills**:

- Management training
- Project Management qualifications or experience
