The Department of Pathology is one of eight departments within the Dunedin School of Medicine, Dunedin. The Department is actively involved in undergraduate medical and health science student teaching and supervision of postgraduate research students.

The Department houses several internationally recognised research groups and has six major research areas including; Cancer Biology, Clinical Pathology, Development, Genetics and Epigenetics, Haematology and Immunotherapy.

**_ The Role/Te mahi_**

A position is available for a part-time Postdoctoral Fellow to work under the guidance of Professor Anthony Braithwaite providing high quality research on a Health Research Council project investigating the role of p53 isoform in cancer.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for data acquisition, contribution to data analyses, writing manuscripts and management of laboratory facilities.
- Other responsibilities include:

- Growing and manipulating immortalized mammalian cell lines in culture.
- Generating isogenic prostate cancer and colorectal cell line using gene editing techniques (CRISPR-Cas9).
- Performing DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation for DNA/RNA-sequencing.
- Performing protein analyses by western blot and flow cytometry.
- Running PCR assays.
- Performing bioinformatic analyses.
- Assisting in the training of postgraduate students and junior research staff who may become associated with the research.
- Assisting in the management of laboratory facilities to ensure efficient and productive research.
- Assisting with quantitative and statistical analyses, writing up and dissemination of findings.

**_ Skills and Experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**
- PhD in a biological science discipline.
- Experience in mammalian cell culture and basic sterile technique.
- Experience with basic molecular biology techniques including cloning, DNA/RNA and protein extraction, PCR, Western blot and flow cytometry.
- Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, analyzing RNA-sequencing data and variant calling will be advantageous.
- Be ready to collaborate with others to achieve satisfactory results.
- Contribute to manuscript writing and dissemination of results.
- Careful and meticulous in record-keeping and experimental work.
- Excellent logístical and organisational skills.

It is essential that applicants are capable of independent work as well as performing well in a team and have excellent communication skills with attention to detail.

This position is part-time (0.5FTE), fixed-term for two years and is available from October 2023.

The salary for this role is $86,210 per annum, pro rata.
