An exciting opportunity has become available in our Gisborne Port operations for a Port Manager to oversee all port operations, including Log Marshalling & Stevedoring departments. Reporting to the Area Manager, this role is responsible for managing the safety of approximately 130 staff, and the efficient movement of several hundred thousand logs through the port and on to vessels every month.

The Port Operations Manager is the key point of contact for customers, agents and port representatives at the site. In this role, you will oversee business performance at the site including; the upkeep and utilization of machinery and equipment as well as ensuring that the site has adequate numbers of suitably skilled people to perform all the roles.

**Responsibilities**:

- Ensure all operations are occurring with a strong focus on Health & Safety
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff, while striving to build a strong team environment
- Take a proactive role in developing robust customer relationships
- Efficient and effective allocation of machinery
- Identify and facilitate training requirements for staff
- Day to day management of resources to meet agreed KPI's
- Development and mentoring of Supervisory and Management Staff that report to you
- Identifying areas for improvement, engage with staff and management, and implement solutions

**The key skills & attributes required for this role include**:

- Natural leader with multi-operational coordination of resources
- Proactive approach to identify and/or respond to any issues in the operation
- Strong people skills; able to have difficult discussions
- Good computer skills
- Practical thinker and the ability to change plans relative to situational demands
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience in supervisor/management roles
