Mount Victoria, New Zealand Marama Labs Full time

**About us**

Marama Labs is on a mission to transform how industries understand and develop complex liquid mixtures. We combine spectroscopy and novel data analytics to obtain valuable insights for manufacturers and developers in the life science, nanoparticle and brewing industries. Our innovative CloudSpec hardware is a world-first spectroscopy technology, invented by our founders, that analyses complex turbid liquids to provide a fast and accurate measure of composition in highly scattering of samples. CloudSpec helps our customers monitor, control and optimise critical quality attributes in pharmaceutical formulation development and production, wine fermentation and other high-value industries.

Having recently closed an over-subscribed capital raise our team is growing rapidly to develop opportunities in multiple industries, including fermentation monitoring and nanoparticle drug development.

**The Role**

From visualising complex winemaking processes in our web app to spectral deconvolution algorithms for determining drug concentrations to instrument performance optimisation, data is at the heart of everything we do.

In this challenging role, you will generate value from complex data sets, enhance and optimise our spectral analysis and work with hardware engineers and scientists to develop our spectroscopic platform. You will also work with our software team to implement analytics and data visualisation into our customer-facing products.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead and develop our data science roadmap, providing analytical insight and data processing algorithms across the company
- Support the R&D and hardware teams in redesigning and optimising a new spectroscopy bench, providing insights into device performance, instrument robustness and minimum performance spec
- Design and implement quantitative spectroscopy models that accurately predict sample information from our unique spectral data
- Help to create and implement the company’s data science platforms, e.g. developing database architectures for storing, mining and interpreting experimental data
- Collaborating closely with the software product team to integrate data processing algorithms and models into customer-facing products, making the data accessible and actionable for non-expert users

**Your Experience**

**Essential**
- A strong background in spectroscopy and/or spectroscopic analysis
- Proven experience in chemometrics and/or multivariate analysis, including processing large data sets using modern tools & techniques
- Proficiency in programming languages for data analysis, e.g., Python, R and MATLAB
- 3+ years experience in a product-centric data role, with a demonstrated track record of translating data analysis into end-user outcomes
- Strong Degree or Master’s in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Computational Biology, Data Science or similar
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

**Preferred**
- Experience with data visualisation packages, e.g., Matplotlib, Plotly, Seaborn
- Experience using collaborative tools and remote working (the company has many remote workers)
- Experience using Test Driven Development and rigorous test-automation
- PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Computational Biology, Data Science or similar

**Ideal**
- Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning models, e.g., TensorFlow, Keras
- Experience in web technologies and GUI development for data visualisation, e.g., Javascript, HTML
- Experience with SQL, ETL and big data storage and effective ways to store data in a cloud environment
- An understanding of life sciences product development principles such as GAMP, Validation V and working with user requirement specifications or similar design approaches

**Why apply**

This is an opportunity to use your Data Science expertise to develop a completely new spectroscopic technique and to be an integral part of a fast-growing and ambitious New Zealand company’s success story.

Additionally, we offer:

- $1000 per year towards professional development, work-related hobbies, conferences or courses.
- Employee share option pool
- 1 paid volunteer day per quarter
- Flexible working hours

Marama Labs offers a mix of in-office and remote/hybrid working options, with an office-first preference. Our office has a stunning view over Wellington harbour and is nestled within the beautiful botanic gardens.

This is a full-time permanent position.
- Please note you must be eligible to work in New Zealand to apply, we are currently unable to provide you a working permit. No agencies at this time, please._
