He Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
Need a change of scene? We're looking for two experienced Health Protection Officers who wants to continue their practice in either Rotorua or Tauranga. With beautiful beaches, forests, and bike tracks, this is a great place for people of all walks of life to enjoy.
We need one Health Protection Officer to support our Lakes-based team, with a focus on the Taupo-Turangi area and some regional work.
We need another Health Protection Officer to support our Bay of Plenty team, with a focus on the Eastern Bay of Plenty and some regional work.
As a Health Protection Officer, you will have a good balance of both office and field-based work. You will need to have experience working with councils, various industries, and the community to help manage and monitor various aspects of public health including communicable disease investigation, border health, liquor licensing, built environments, and air quality.
Hours offered for both roles are permanent full-time working 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week).
Addressing health inequalities for Māori and Pacific peoples through the health regulatory framework is an important aspect of this role, so you will need a good understanding of how Te Tiriti o Waitangi should be applied to public health and be comfortable working with and alongside local Iwi and Hāpu to help them achieve their aspirations.
He Korero mōu - About You
It is essential that you have excellent communication skills, are naturally inquisitive and comfortable working both alone and in a team. Good risk assessment and priority setting skills are essential. You must be available to work a rostered 24-hour on-call system and have a current driver's licence.
To be considered for either of these roles you must be either currently designated as a Health Protection Officer or eligible for designation. You must have permanent residency or a valid long-term working visa to be considered for this position.
