He angitūtanga | About the role
The Department is looking for their next ranger to join the Biodiversity King Country Operations team This role is hands on and will require you to bring your experience in biodiversity conservation including trapping, weed control, planting and protecting the Pureora Forests vulnerable threatened flora, fauna and habitats.
This role is unique and forms part of a small team that relies on a high degree of co-operation. This means that you will have to work in remote locations and at times on your own, so you will need to be dependable and adhere to the Department's health and safety protocols.
The successful applicant will be someone who has pride in their working environment, enjoys maintaining a quality environment for visitors, and has a good understanding of working with volunteers, community groups, whānau, hapū and iwi.

**The position will be focused on**:

- monitoring and planning the delivery of assigned work projects. You will also complete safety audits, progress reports and raise issues when they arise
- being involved in community conservation projects and leading advocacy programmes within the community
- undertaking biodiversity activities including monitoring, ungulate management and native restoration work.

This is a permanent full-time role, working Monday to Thursday for 10 hours each day. There may be some occasions when evening, weekend, and overnight stays for up to one week in the backcountry are required. This role can be based either at our Te Kuiti or Pureora office.

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

- sound knowledge and practical experience of biodiversity work, including trapping, pest control and experience with pesticides and herbicides
- experience and/or qualifications in working with spray equipment and other field-based equipment and/or machinery
- etrong communication skills both verbal and written and an ability to maintain positive relationships across a broad range of people and groups
- able to be flexible with work hours, ability to work in remote locations and stay overnight in the backcountry for up to one week at a time
- computer knowledge and use of GPS, navigation, general data collection and processing
- commitment to practicing good Health and Safety processes when delivering our work
- the ability to lead small teams to complete assigned project work
- knowledge and experience in planning/organising projects and collating/reporting information to stakeholders
- Full New Zealand driver licence is essential.

**Desirable**:

- LUV and 4WD unit standards/qualifications and off-road field experience.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Current Growsafe Certificate.
- Chainsaw Operators Certification.
- Cultural capability awareness and/or experience engaging with iwi, hapū and whānau.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Tikanga Māori and Te Ao Māori is an advantage.
