Waikato Regional Council are looking for a Monitoring Officer at all stages of their career to join our resource consent monitoring team. As a Monitoring Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring and managing a broad range of consented activities within the Waikato Region including:
- Earthworks and land development
- Works within freshwater
- Coastal activities
- Mining and quarries

The primary role of a Monitoring Officer includes:

- undertake site inspections
- assess environmental data
- determine potential environmental effects
- build relationships with our businesses and communities
- coordinate technical specialists
- follow up on non-compliance, and report on outcomes

Occasionally the role will require you to carry through with the investigation of an offence and prepare documentation to support the necessary enforcement action to be taken.

An understanding of Te Ao Māori and an ability to demonstrate a clear commitment to working with iwi to meet both our Treaty obligations and the growing expectations of tangata whenua across the region are a must.

**Mō te tangata | About you**
- work well in a team.

- Able to build relationships with resource consent holders.
- Have a deep understanding of the issues affecting the Waikato Region and the role that regulation plays in protecting our environment.

Relevant professional experience in compliance, monitoring and enforcement, and erosion and sediment control would be advantageous.

**A Monitoring Officer will have**:

- A relevant bachelor’s degree in resource management, science, planning, or a related field.
- An awareness of the role of Tikanga Māori and Mātauranga Māori in resource management.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare clear concise reports.
- Time management, organisation, and proactive communication skills.
- An ability to plan and schedule own work, and work with little supervision.
- An ability to understand technical issues and communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated mentoring and support of other less experienced staff.
- Proven knowledge of all facets of the use of enforcement tools, evidence collection and presentation to an enforcement decision making forum.
- An ability to work independently in accordance with compliance, monitoring, and enforcement best practice and adherence to legislative requirements.

Relevant professional experience in compliance, monitoring and enforcement, and erosion and sediment control would be advantageous.
