As a Senior Hearing Manager you have significant responsibility and play a critical part in providing coordination and support services to enable the Board and the Public Protection Order Review Panel to carry out their statutory responsibilities. This includes proactive management of upcoming hearings and active relationship management with panel convenors and other stakeholders.
Exceptional organisation skills, a proactive attitude, a high level of empathy and first-class attention to detail are key to success in this role. You will collaborate with the Panel Convenor to ensure all parties are well prepared for the hearings and the day will run smoothly. You'll deliver on actions required for pending Board hearings, including notifying people in prison, and their victims, of upcoming hearings. You will ensure all relevant papers are received, collated and provided to the Board, the person being considered for parole and legal counsel, within specified timeframes. You will attend hearings with the Board, both in-person at prison sites or by video conference, ensuring hearings run efficiently and that outcomes are recorded and distributed to relevant stakeholders. You are the direct contact person to discuss hearing outcomes with victims and ensure they receive copies of Board decisions as per statutory requirements.
As a key member of our wider leadership team, you'll work alongside our Hearing Managers to embed best practice and lead process reviews. Your ability and willingness to maanaki and coach your colleagues will be invaluable. You'll be motivated by the opportunity to support our Operations Managers by leading on the induction and training of new team members, aligned to the team vision and within our quality assurance framework. Please note this role does not have any direct reports. Though the ability to influence, coach and develop others in a non-managerial position is an essential skill in this position and an opportunity for personal leadership development.
In the role you will be responsible for supporting Hearing Managers to deliver on actions required for pending Board hearings, including notifying people in prison, and their victims, of upcoming hearings, and ensuring all relevant papers are collated and provided to the Board, the person being considered for parole and legal counsel, within specified timeframes. You may attend hearings with the Board, including at prison sites, ensuring hearings run efficiently and that outcomes are recorded and distributed to relevant stakeholders. You will play a key role in supporting Hearing Managers to communicate challenging information to victims with empathy and accuracy.

- Ability to motivate, influence and coach others in a non-managerial position
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to problem solve and resolve conflicts, empathise and show compassion when communicating with people appearing before the Board, and victims;
- Highly organised, excellent attention to detail and able to work within tight legislative timeframes
- Ability to maintain knowledge of relevant legislations and actively engage with strategic goals
- Ability to role model and lead our commitment to our quality assurance framework,
- An understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi, and cultural competence towards Māori, Pasifika and other cultures.
