Canterbury Health
Laboratories (CHL) is a busy diagnostic facility providing services to
inpatients and outpatients at Te Whatu Ora Waitaha (Canterbury). You will
be working for the largest medical laboratory within Te Waipounamu.
The diagnostic
Immunology section of CHL supports clinicians in the diagnosis and management
of patients with diseases resulting from disorders of the immune systems within
the broad group of systemic and organ-based autoimmunity, autoinflammation
allergy and primary and secondary immunodeficiency.
The CHL Immunology
Department has a long-established expertise in development, analysis and
clinical interpretation of antibody assays, cellular immunophenotyping and
functional immune studies. The laboratory is clinically lead by a Consultant
Immunologist and works closely with the Clinical Immunology/Allergy services
and Rheumatology services which are integrated as one department.
The immunology service
test repertoire includes detection of a range of diagnostic autoantibodies,
serological allergy testing, both routine and bespoke immunodeficiency
investigations and therapeutic biological (monoclonal antibodies) drug
monitoring. The section is continually adding new tests to
the repertoire. Routine laboratory techniques include ELISA, gel-based
assays, indirect immunofluorescence, FIEA (immunoCAP), line blot, radioimmunoassay,
flow cytometry and HPLC.
The department also runs the
paediatric allergy skin testing service for the Canterbury region.
This is a part-time (32 hours
per week) permanent position, based at CHL which sited in central Christchurch.
We are looking for a scientist
with previous immunology laboratory experience to join our team. Applications
from scientists from other disciplines with transferable laboratory skills will
also be considered. Additional experience in assay development, HPLC and

**quality management (compliance with ISO**: 15189) would be advantageous.
There will be opportunities
within the role to further develop of analytical and clinical knowledge. An
interest in research and development will be encouraged. The laboratory fosters
a close relationship with the co-located Medical and Health Science School,
Christchurch campus of the University of Otago.

**This role requires the following**:

- A registered Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) preferably with a

current practicing certificate or qualifications that would allow/lead to
registration as an MLS.
- Practical experience in routine immunological assay techniques
(e.g. ELISA, Immunofluorescence microscropy)
- HPLC experience would be desirable
- Familiarity with laboratory processes and experience in a similar
role
- Methodical and practical skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy skills
- Interpersonal and organisational skills
- Data entry experience
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook and Excel)Mō mātou | About Us
