He angitūtanga | About the role
You will be leading a high performing team of statutory planners largely based in the North Island. Your exceptional leadership will drive a culture of excellence in a supportive team environment. You will prioritise development by coaching, guiding and upskilling your team members.
As a Team Lead, you manage performance and setting of expectations with individuals. You will ensure standards are being met, systems and processes are developed, improved, and administered. You will be responsible for pastoral care in a professional context, ensuring team members have the support and flexibility they need to thrive.
A core function of your role is to provide oversight of highly complex projects and processes. Supporting project leads and teams to deliver, while keeping an eye on emerging risks and issues, and supporting ongoing management and mitigations through governance. You will support key organisation priorities and effectively deliver the Statutory Planning and Marine work programme.
You will be supported by a competent Planning Leadership Team, comprised of the Statutory Planning and Marine Manager, a South Island based Statutory Planning Team Lead, a Marine Team Lead and National Advisors.

**About the Team**:
We are a national team of statutory planners and marine advisors distributed throughout the country with people working in DOC Offices or flexibly in other locations. We have a great mix of skill, interests, backgrounds, and approaches.
We prepare statutory planning documents that provide direction for how public conservation lands and waters will be managed. These documents include conservation management strategies, national park management plans and conservation management plans. The processes to develop these documents involves significant engagement with Treaty partners, key stakeholders and the general public.
The marine component of our work focuses on achieving and enhancing marine conservation outcomes. We also provide advice to other parts of DOC to support conservation decisions.
We work with iwi, hapū and whānau to realise their aspirations and to ensure we give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We have strong working relationships with multiple teams across Government. We engage extensively with the public and key stakeholders to ensure we deliver fit for purpose outcomes.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
We are seeking an experienced people manager with exceptional leadership skills. You will have strong analytical and organisational ability with excellent communication skills. While you will be familiar with the workings of central government, you may also have experience in conservation management and/or planning processes.
There are times when workload will be high, you will need to be resilient and perform under pressure, while leading your team.

**Key Skills**:

- Exceptional leadership qualities including experience leading teams, coaching and mentoring and delivering quality outcomes and products
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, engagement and relationship management skills
- Provides high quality, targeted advice
- Knowledge of conservation management, planning or policy tools
- Experience working with tangata whenua: iwi, hapū and whānau and an understanding of Te ao Māori is advantageous.
- Demonstrates resilience and flexibility, with an ability to work in ambiguity at times

The salary range for this position is $85,757 to $109,578 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
