Mechanical Fitter

Join the City Services Team at Napier City Council as a skilled and accomplished Mechanical Fitter. In this role, you'll be instrumental in conducting routine, planned, and reactive maintenance repairs for water, wastewater, stormwater pumping stations, and treatment plants throughout Napier.

Your responsibilities will extend to the replacement and maintenance of pumps and mechanical equipment at various council facilities, encompassing tasks such as fence construction, gate installation, barrier maintenance, and playground equipment upkeep for different council departments. Additionally, you'll contribute to engineering repairs on diverse machinery, trailers, and trucks.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Respond promptly to urgent and non-urgent preventative mechanical maintenance tasks based on service requests from plant operators and internal customers.
- Undertake fault finding, diagnosis, and problem-solving activities on mechanical and hydraulic systems, including pumps and valves.
- Provide accurate costings for repairs, modifications, and upgrades, explaining these to the Operations Manager Three Waters, and offering quotes for outsourced repairs as needed.
- Fabricate metal fences, lids, gates, barriers, etc., in alignment with service requests from other council departments, maintaining meticulous records for costing purposes and assisting with installations when necessary.
- Contribute to the construction and installation of new pipework and mechanical plant on both new and existing assets.

**To excel in this role, you should possess**:

- A qualified/trade certificate in mechanical fitting/engineering maintenance or an equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated experience as a Fitter with a proven track record.
- Proficient knowledge of hydraulic systems and associated mechanical components.
- The ability to interpret technical drawings and diagrams related to mechanical systems.
- Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
