While one of our team is on secondment, there’s an opportunity for an enthusiastic Senior Policy Advisor (or Advisor looking to step up) to join us in this exciting role. A bit about us - The Transitions Strategy team leads, coordinates and integrates a strategic work programme to shape and respond to economic transitions in New Zealand, including the transition to a low emissions economy and supporting the Tripartite forum on the future of work.
We provide a whole of economy perspective on the impacts of climate change, the transition to a low emissions economy and the implications for the future of work. We work closely with teams within MBIE and across agencies who have an interest in climate change and labour market policy, drawing on different sets of knowledge and networks to provide coherent advice to Ministers.

Transitions Strategy is part of Te Waka Putahitanga group, where we are united in our mission of ‘Looking ahead, working across - Haumi ē, Hui ē, Tāiki e', providing strategic and system-focused advice for MBIE and our Ministers. The role will focus on supporting the Future of Work Forum. Specifically, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our preparation for the April forum on Women and the Future of Work and the June forum on “Building future resilience”.. In this role you will work closely with social partners - the Council of Trade Unions and Business New Zealand - to develop material that will support constructive tripartite discussions. You’ll also work across agencies to provide advice to Ministers on key issues discussed at the forum.
This opportunity will allow you to work at the forefront of some of the biggest challenges facing our economy and society today.

- Strategic policy thinkers interested in the challenge the future poses for the labour market in Aotearoa.
- People who are comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and partners, including MBIE’s senior leaders, government agencies, and business.
- Skills to engage with emerging evidence and research on economic transitions and labour market issues, and drawing out relevant insights to inform strategic policy advice.
- A ‘can do' attitude, and people who take ownership of their work to deliver the best results Policy professionals with a minimum 3 years' experience and a relevant tertiary qualification
