Te Whanganui a Tara
We have an exciting fixed-term opportunity for a Principal Advisor that is experienced in the machinery of government to work in the System Performance Monitoring team.
Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity
The System Performance Monitoring team has overall responsibility for the monitoring work programme at Te Puni Kōkiri in its legislated role to monitor and liaise with public service agencies to ensure the adequacy of services provided to Māori.
We are looking for an experienced Principal Advisor to lead and contribute to the development and delivery of the monitoring work programme. This role also requires excellent oral and written communications about how relevant data for Māori demonstrates the strength or weakness of the system's performance for whānau.

You will have the ability to build, maintain and enhance strategic relationships within Te Puni Kōkiri, and externally with other agencies and entities. You will have a proven ability to lead complex cross-government policy development and implementation programmes and to lead relevant people working on the programmes.
Some experience in planning and performance reporting, is preferred for this role but is not a requirement.

**The common criteria for success are to**:

- understand tikanga Māori and have a commitment to achieve the vision set out in te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- possess experience and confidence in engaging with senior leaders, Ministers and external stakeholders.
- possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- be able to respond to changing demands and priorities, deal with ambiguity and give shape to unformed ideas.
- understand government and the public service with an understanding of the rationale and mechanisms for government intervention.
- understand public sector processes.
- value diverse perspectives and experience.
- manage your effort to deliver work to a high standard and on time, both independently and with the support of others.

Te Puni Kōkiri | Ministry of Māori Development
Te Puni Kōkiri (Ministry of Māori Development) is a progressive government agency that works within government and communities to achieve our vision of Thriving Whānau.
The wellbeing of whānau, hapū and iwi is central to the future wellbeing of Aotearoa. The very broad role of Te Puni Kōkiri, our access to information and ability to make connections, make us ideally placed to spark innovation.
We influence the work of others by bringing Māori voices to decision makers and we invest in innovative initiatives that build the capacity and readiness of whānau and Māori communities.
To achieve this, we engage with whānau, hapū and iwi, and partner with other public sector agencies.
Ka whiwhi koe i te aha | What you will get in return
There is more to life than just work and we encourage our staff to maintain the right balance between work and personal pursuits. We recognise that a healthy workforce is a productive one so we're committed to providing opportunities and incentives for our employees to look after themselves, including:
