**Te āheinga: The opportunity**

In this role, you will also assist in the development and optimization of experimental protocols and ensure accurate documentation of all procedures and findings in laboratory notebooks and databases. You will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, preparing reagents, and managing inventory to ensure a well-organized and efficient lab environment. As a member of the lab, you will uphold safety standards and comply with regulatory guidelines to maintain a safe and productive working environment.

This position is ideal for someone who is highly motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate about research in genomics, with a desire to grow their skills in a collaborative scientific setting.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

You'll bring:

- A Masters-level degree
- An understanding or desire to learn Te Reo Māori, Tikanga Māori and the values and practices of Kaupapa Māori
- Experience in:

- Practical skills in molecular analysis (e.g. DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, sequencing)
- Bioinformatics with experience using R and/or bash programming languages preferable
- Fungal culturing is preferable but not essential
- Expertise in ecology or environmental science preferable but not essential
- Evidence of scientific publication
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Able to work independently, collaboratively and flexibly
- Excellent time management skills
- Evidence of active engagement in building diverse, inclusive and equitable workplaces/environments
- A current full drivers licence and the ability to use your own vehicle for this position (a mileage allowance will be paid should you be required to use your vehicle at Unitec's request)
